Q: Can I use shoe polish on any leather product?

  A: updated (05/04/2012)

Manufacturer's generally do not advise it: due to the strength of the pigmentation in shoe polish, it can often over power delicate leathers and alter it's appearance. If you do intend to use shoe polish on a leather product, manufacturer's usually suggest you use a neutral/colourless polish. When applying the polish, it's wise to begin by using as little as possible - so as to see it's effect - and allow it to seep into the leather and dry, before applying a larger amount, if required. On the whole however, manufacturer's recommend you use a cleaning products designed specifically for leather furniture, clothes etc., rather than shoe polish.
