Adidas TRX: light weight canvas jogging shoe (1976)

The Adidas TRX is a popular lightweight canvas jogging shoe that was originally released in 1976. The 'TRX' stands for 'TRAX' or 'Traction', and refers to the shoe's gum rubber outsole: that is designed to grip most running surfaces. The Adidas TRX was originally released in a "air force" blue and "electric yellow" colorway (shown below). The Adidas TRX has been re-released a number of times as part of the Adidas Originals product line; however, the TRX is mostly released as a time limited special edition sneaker. One of the most recent re-releases of the TRX was in the Fall Originals 2009 collection; it is currently not for sale from Adidas.

While the traditional colourway for the TRX is "air force" blue and "electric" yellow, the sneaker has been released in a range of additional colourways; such as: blue/grey, grey/blue and purple/blue/brown. While the upper of the original TRX sneakers was made from canvas, some versions of the TRX are made out of mesh; a material that is more breathable and durable. While the TRX was originally a running shoe, a range of modern Adidas footwear has rendered the cushioning technology of the TRX defunct as a competitive running shoe.

The TRX brand name has been used by Adidas to market a range of modern football boots and training shoes. These shoes feature TRX studs, grips and tracks. Some modern Adidas TRX boots and shoes are the: Adidas Incurza TRX SG Rugby Boots; Adidas AW14 FF80 TRX SG II Rugby Boots; Adidas Predito Absolado LZ TRX Astro Turf Boots; Adidas Performance 11 Nova Trx AG Football Boots; Adidas F30 TRX Firm Ground Boots; and the Adidas Predator LZ TRX Firm Ground Football Boots.
