Q: What are the green, yellow, red and white triangle badges on
  safety shoes?

  A: updated (10/02/2012)

Both Canada and the United States of America use a range of coloured triangle badges to refer to standards for their safety shoes/boots. The organisations which are responsible for footwear standards in Canada and the United States of America are as follows,

United States of America = American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM)

Canada = Canadian Standards Association (CSA)

Sadly, to confuse consumers even more, the meaning of the triangles differs between the ASTM and CSA standards. Generally speaking, the triangles refer to protection for; toe caps, sole puncture, anti-static, electricity and heat.
