Q: What is a shoe stretcher?

  A: updated (02/02/2012)

As the name would suggest, a shoe stretcher is a mechanical device placed within a shoe to stretch it. Shoe stretchers are designed for use in leather and suede shoes; they tend not to work for shoes which are made out soft fabrics, such as vinyl. There are a number of reasons why a shoe stretcher is a useful accessory, which are listed below.

1. Help to remove any creases within the leather or suede of a shoe's upper.
2. Can help increase the width and length of a tight shoe.
3. Return shoes to their original size, after shrinking due to weather conditions.
4. Can help break-in a new shoe.
