The is a 0% rate of VAT - Value Added Tax - on children's footwear and clothes in the United Kingdom. So, you will not any VAT for kids shoes in the United Kingdom, as of 2012. Any type of children's footwear - be it slippers, wellington boots, plimsolls, football boots - are exempt from VAT. However, accessories for footwear - such as shoe laces, an insole, replacement sole - are not exempt from VAT. For footwear to be viewed as kids shoes by HM Revenue and Customs: the shoe should be Boys size 6½ and under, and Girls 5½ and under; or, that the shoe has been designed for sale to under 14's.
