Q: Does the European Union have regulations for the sale of footwear?

  A: updated (02/02/2012)

The European Union does have regulations pertaining to the materials used in the manufacture of footwear. Shoes sold in the European Union should be clearly labeled to inform the consumer of the materials which comprise: the upper, the lining and the outer sole of the shoe. The labels provided by the EU are in relation to casual and formal shoes, and not to specialist works shoes. The following, are some of the most common EU labels for footwear.

  1. - Leather
  2. - Coated Leather
  3. - Textile
