Q: When should I be charged for my shoes?

  A: updated (02/02/2012)

Assuming you have ordered with a credit or debit card: you should be charged for your shoes when the item has been dispatched. Ethical retailers will only issue a charge to your credit card at this point of the shipment process; even though they will authorise a payment from your credit/debit card when you place the order. On the other hand, some unethical retailer issue a charge before they even have the product in stock: which is totally unacceptable, and you should issue a complaint to Trading Standards if such a thing occurs. For other payment types - such as cash or cheque - goods (such as shoes) will generally only be dispatched once the payment has cleared.
