Q: Is there a safety shoe standard for Australia?

  A: updated (10/02/2012)

Yes there is, which covers both Australia and New Zealand. The code for this safety standard is AS/NZS 2210.3:2009. This standard has been developed to cover occupational protective footwear. The type of requirements covered by this standard include; anti-static protection for the sole and upper, anti-slip rubber sole, steel toe cap protection to protect against falling objects, and shock absorbency for the toe and heel. The Australian and New Zealand standard aims to provide requirements for manufacturers of footwear, which is used in; construction jobs, for firefighters, oil rig and offshore oil rigs, laboratories and factories; to name but a few.
