Thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU): used in Adidas shoes?

Thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) is a material used in some Adidas shoes: commonly used as an overlay (toe, heel and midfoot overlays) to help improve the durability and structural strength of the shoe. Thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) is a type/class of polyurethane plastic that has a high level of resistance to abrasion. TPU has had a wide range of applications to consumer products, including: power tools, sporting goods, drive belts and footwear. One shoe (shown below) that uses TPU overlays is the Adidas Climacool 1: the upper of this shoe is made from a mesh textile that relied on the TPU overlays to protect the textile at strategic points that tend to suffer from wear and tear.
