Eddy Merckx Portrait Tongue; Adidas cycling shoe

Eddy Merckx is a legendary professional cyclist who won the Tour de France five times. A Belgium citizen, he rode for a range of cycle teams in the 1960's and 1970's, and was the most famous cyclist of his era. Adidas released a cycle shoe that was endorsed by Eddy Merckx in the 1970's; as was common with shoes endorsed by famous sports stars, Adidas stitched a Eddy Merckx portrait label onto the tongue of the endorsement shoe.

The Adidas Eddy Merckx cycle shoe is not currently in production, but it has been released periodically with limited edition 'runs'. Adidas have made cycling shoes and apparel for over 40 years, but, due to the limited worldwide appeal of cycling, it has never been a primary sport that Adidas' focuses on; unlike football, athletics and tennis.
