Man Utd could lose £22.5 million Adidas Champions League bonus

Cliff Baty, chief financial officer at Manchester United, has disclosed that the club will lose in the region of £20 million annually if the club fails to qualify for the Champions League this season. Man Utd signed a world record £750m 10 year deal kit manufacturing deal with Adidas two years ago, the contract signed between the two parties stipulates that when the club fails to qualify for the Champions League, for two consecutive seasons, then the club will lose 30% of their annual income from Adidas. Manchester United currently receive £75 million a season from Adidas, with a Champions League penalty imposed, this income will be reduced by £22.5 million, to a sum of £52.5 million. During the 2015–16 Manchester United F.C. season, the club finished in 5th position, and failed to qualify for the Champions League, the club is currently in 6th position during the 2016–17, and will again fail to qualify for the Champions League if they remain in this position.
